Rams stay perfect

PAONIA ” Roaring Fork stayed perfect on the season with a 5-3 victory over previously unbeaten Paonia in a nonleague prep baseball contest here Tuesday.

Taylor Arbaney picked up his first win of the season, with four innings of work. He allowed three runs, five hits and struck out four batters. The Rams’ offense posted 10 hits in support, led by Misael Fernandez and Max Green.

Fernandez and Green both went 3-for-4 on the day, with Fernandez picking up a pair of doubles and two RBIs and Green notching a double.

Roaring Fork led 4-3 after four innings when Arbaney turned the mound duties over to ace Jake Boyle. The Rams added an insurance run in the fifth and Boyle closed out the contest with six strikeouts, while allowing just two hits. The senior pitcher has yet to allow an earned run this season.

Ty Abshire led Paonia with a solo homer, while Ed Chesnik and Josh Swartzendruber both went 2-for-3 in the game.

Roaring Fork improves to 4-0 on the season, while Paonia drops to 3-1. The Rams host Class 3A Western Slope League foe Hotchkiss in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
