Rams top Cowboys
Hosting the Gunnison Cowboys in Carbondale on Thursday, the Roaring Fork Rams’ girls volleyball team swept the Cowboys in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 25-18 to improve to 7-5 overall on the year.
Roaring Fork Head Coach Donna Batcher said that Kristin Page and Melissa Sanchez were the Rams’ co-MVPs on the night as Page served game-point in all three wins while Sanchez’s passing stood out for Roaring Fork, which has had a major turnaround in the first year under Batcher.
Sitting at 7-5 on the year, Roaring Fork will host Olathe on Tuesday in a big 3A WSL matchup at 6 p.m.
BEARS SPLIT WITH DEVILS
On the road for a big 4A Western Slope League matchup with the Eagle Valley Devils, the Rifle Bears softball team split Thursday’s double header by scores of 13-0 and 11-10.
In game one, Rifle rolled to a 13-0 win to pick up its 13th win of the season by scoring four runs in the fourth inning and nine runs in the fifth inning to finish the game. With the league title already wrapped up one week ago against Palisade, the Bears could afford to drop a game on Thursday, which they did in game two as Eagle Valley scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the walk-off win over the Bears.
With the split of the double header, Rifle now sits at 13-3 on the season with a road game at Basalt on Saturday looming before a home game with Basalt next Thursday wrapping up the regular season.
