Relays carry 4A Glenwood Demonsin swim meet against 14 5A teams

Taking the pool against 19 other teams, 14 of which were Class 5A, the 4A Glenwood Springs boys swimming team took 13th place by totaling 43 points.The relays shined for the Demons, recording 11th, 12th and 13th-place finishes.”The boys did well considering the tough competition,” said Glenwood head coach Howard Jay. “Our relays really came through.”The 400-yard freestyle relay of John Jay, Jamie Giezentanner, Bryce McDermott and Hansen Nordsiek swam a 3:45.51 to take 11th. Rafael Joly, McDermott, Nordsiek and Jay finished 12th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.97 and Giezentanner, George Keeper, Joly and Casey Martin took 15th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.61.Individually, Jay, the coach’s son, swam to an eighth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:20.85, while McDermott took 20th after finishing the event in 7:47.38.Joly placed 17th in the 200-yard individual medley and 20th in the 100-yard backstroke.The Demons will be back in the pool April 17 when they travel to Summit.
