Adult soccer returned to Gates Soccer Park this weekend, with teams eager to display equal parts quality play with respect for the game and their opponents.The six teams involved in the aptly-named Friendly Tournament were on target throughout the two-day event.Teams played hard while sticking out hands of congratulation after opponents made good plays against them.Oh, and their was some great soccer displayed too.Tecnológico de Monterrey, a two-time national champion, university-level club from Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, won Sunday’s title 5-1 over Club Deportivo Tequezquite from Rifle.Tequezquite’s defense turned away a number of the visitor’s scoring attempts to keep the game scoreless deep into the period.Tecnológico’s Marco Antonio Hernandez Barriada broke the 0-0 deadlock with a shot inside the far post in the 41st minute.After intermission Mauricio Vizcarra Luna raised the lead to 2-0 when he pushed home a free kick to the low far corner five minutes into the second half.Ten minutes later, forward Jose Magana scored Tequezquite’s only goal of the game on a lob to the high near corner of the net from the right wing.The Mexican national champs responded with a score in the 66th minute, then added goals in the 77th and 80th minutes for the final score.
