Rifle baseball knocks off Bulldogs, 7-5

Staff Report

PALISADE – The Rifle Bears baseball team got a lead early and held on for a 7-5 victory over Palisade in Class 4A Western Slope League action here Thursday.

Rifle (5-1 WSL, 10-3 overall) led 6-1 after three innings, but the Bulldogs tallied four runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-5. It was all the offense Palisade could muster, however, as the Bears scored the game’s final run in the top of the sixth inning.

Jason Enewold earned the win with a complete-game pitching performance that included seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Nick Babler paced the Bears with a 2-for-4 effort and three runs scored. Owen Madison and Adam Krick were both 3-for-4 and Eli Snead posted a 2-for-3 day.

Rifle travels to Steamboat Springs Saturday for a doubleheader against the Sailors.

Ben Wright and Markoya both had solid days offensively, going 3-for-3 from the plate.
