Rifle Bears wrestlers get revenge on Palisade

PALISADE, Colorado ” Rifle exacted a little wrestling revenge on Palisade Tuesday, defeating the Bulldogs 43-30 in a dual at Palisade.

It was only Saturday that the Bulldogs squeaked past the Bears by a point in the final of Rifle’s home duals tournament.

Winning matches for Rifle were Larry Schmueser (119 pounds), Jacob Counts (130), James Martinez (135), James Conrardy (140), Dano Fugita (160), Kiefer Deere (171), Brian Key (215) and Tad Davis (heavyweight).

Schmueser, Conrardy, Fugita, Deere, Key and Davis all won their matches by pin.

PEACH VALLEY, Colorado ” Take away the forfeits and Tuesday was a pretty good night for Coal Ridge’s wrestlers.

The Titans won five of the seven matches that actually took place against visiting Eagle Valley, but lost the dual by a count of 35-29.

“We wrestled pretty well,” Coal Ridge coach Rob Grumley said.

At 125 pounds, Titan wrestler Neal Schultz scored a first-period pin of Dakota West. Keenan Grumley pinned Eagle Valley’s Matt Cottonstette in 3 minutes, 40 seconds at 145 pounds.

Coal Ridge’s Rylan Richards (152) won by tech fall over Sergio Contreras, while teammate Kevin Laidlaw pinned Nick Soto in the second round at 171 and the Titans’ Bradey Gasaway finished off Tanner Hollis with a pin in 1:31 at 189 pounds.
