Rifle falters late in 4-2 defeat against Delta
RIFLE – Late innings continue to be a problem for the Rifle High School girls softball team.
After pulling to a 2-all tie with Delta in Saturday’s league home game at Deerfield Park, the Bears fell behind for good when the Panthers scored a run in the fourth inning,
Delta added an insurance run in the seventh for a 4-2 decision which dropped Rifle to 7-10 on the year and 2-4 in league play with two games left in the regular season.
Lindsey McCue-Locke, Jenny Hughes and Sarah Ramsey had base hits for the Bears. Hughes’ single scored a run and was Rifle’s only RBI in the contest.
Sophomore pitcher Trisha Wailes allowed one earned run in the complete-game loss. Her win-loss record fell to 5-7 on the year.
Rifle finishes the season with back-to-back home games against Montrose on Tuesday and Palisade Saturday. Both games are scheduled to be played at Deerfield Park in North Rifle.
