Rifle fourth, Glenwood sixth at regionals

GYPSUM – The Rifle Bears and Glenwood Springs Demons finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Class 4A Western Regional girls golf tournament held at the par-72 Cotton Ranch Golf Club here Tuesday.

Rifle combined for a 319-stroke total, while Glenwood finished with 343. Eagle Valley took top honors and qualified for the state tournament as a team with a round of 286.

Glenwood’s Jacy Reynolds had the low round among local golfers at the event with a 104, while Kammi Ivie carded a 118. Michelle Whiddon and Ali Tonozzi finished with rounds of 121 and 147, respectively, for Glenwood.

The Bears had three players finish under 110, led by Jenny Hughes’ 105. Caitlin Wagner was a stroke behind her teammate and Skylar Bell carded a 108. Christian Holybee turned in a round of 130.

Aspen’s Kristin Walla won the individual title with 81.

The top nine finishers, not including the scores from the members of the winning team, qualify for the two-day state tournament set to tee off May 19-20.

The individual qualifiers were not made available to the Post Independent.
