Rifle girls, Roaring Fork boys bound for Fort Collins

Rifle’s girls topped Manitou Springs, 42-24, on Saturday and Roaring Fork’s boys held on for an 82-72 win over Weld Central in overtime to punch their respective tickets to the Class 3A state basketball tournament in Fort Collins next weekend.

Roaring Fork, the seventh seed in the 32-team playoff bracket, will face No. 15 Jefferson Academy in the Great Eight round at Moby Arena in Fort Collins on Thursday.

Jefferson Academy defeated previously unbeaten Colorado Springs Christian, 56-50, in four overtimes on Saturday to advance.

Rifle, seeded second in the girls bracket, will go up against No. 7 Eaton in the round of eight on Thursday. The Bears are now 24-0.

Eaton defeated Peak to Peak, 53-32, in the Sweet 16.
