Rifle girls win PEG League title

The Rifle Middle School girls basketball team won the 8th grade PEG League post-season tournament on Saturday with a 59-51 victory over host Basalt at Basalt Middle School.

Rifle, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, after completing the regular season with a undefeated 6-0 win-loss record, finished the season at 8-0 with two tournament victories.

Guard Kendall Babbler led Rifle with 15 points. Forward Megan McWilliams added eight and Sharaya Selsor scored seven points.

In the tournament semifinals, after earning a first-round bye, the Cubs rolled to a 56-18 win over New Castle Riverside, which nipped Parachute St. John, 28-27, in the first round.

All 22 players who suited up for the Riverside game played in the game, led by Melissa Skinner with 11 points. Selsor scored eight, McWilliams tossed in six points.

In the 2003-04 boys middle school season, Rifle won the PEG League post and regular-season titles and also finished 8-0.
