Rifle golfers tally good scores, take third overall

Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

AVON, Colorado ” Alex Haynes and Klayton Costanzo joined forces on a heck of a showing for Rifle’s boys golf team at Eagle-Vail Golf Club in Avon on Wednesday.

Haynes shot a 77 and Costanzo carded a 79, good for second and third place, respectively, as the Bears took home third place from Battle Mountain High School’s home tourney. Jacob Withee turned in a 99 to round out Rifle’s team score.

It was the host school that took home top honors on Wednesday, both on the team and individual leaderboards.



Battle Mountain’s Cameron Brown shot a 76 on the par-72 course to edge out Haynes by a stroke for medalist honors. Led by Brown, the Huskies combined for a team mark of 243 to finish nine strokes ahead of second-place Summit and 12 shots in front of Rifle.

Coal Ridge and Roaring Fork were also in attendance at Eagle-Vail.



Andy Smedra shot a 90 to pace the Titans, who also got a 96 from Craig Spaulding. Micah Evonitz posted the Rams’ best score ” a 99.

Glenwood Springs, Rifle and Coal Ridge return to the area today for Eagle Valley’s home tournament at Cotton Ranch Golf Course in Gypsum.
