Rifle High School golfer leads pack at Junior Tournament

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – Loren Forney, who’ll enter her junior year at Rifle High School in the fall, is leading the girls 14- to 18-year-old field after Monday’s opening round of the three-day Western Colorado Golf Association Junior Tournament.The Bear, a fourth-place finisher at the high school state meet back in May, shot an 83 at Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction to grab a four-shot lead over Fruita Monument student Whitney Brofos.

Golfers migrate crosstown to Tiara Rado Golf Course today and finish up the 72-hole tournament Wednesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.



Other local juniors in Junction include Basalt High School graduate Connor Rakowski, who sat in a fifth-place tie with Ethan Grider after shooting a 77 in the boys 16-18 age division on Monday. Rakowski is headed to Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., in the fall.Rifle High School grad Shawn Cruse carded an 85 to land in the middle of the pack after day one.
