Rifle hoopsters sweep Delta

RIFLE – The Rifle boys’ basketball team opened the Class 4A Western Slope League portion of its schedules with a victory over Delta on Friday.The Bears boys raised their overall record to 3-4 and 1-0 in the WSL after a 65-57 win over the visiting Panthers. Ryan Shideler scored a game-high 22 points to lead Rifle, who pulled out to a nine-point lead at halftime from a 15-all tie at the end of the first quarter.The Bears’ margin slipped to six when Delta outscored Rifle 14-8 in the third before rallying back in the game’s final eight minutes with a 21-16 run.Three Delta players, led by senior Bryce Atchley’s 17 points finished in double figures. -On Saturday, Rifle stayed undefeated in league play with a 60-45 victory over Palisade.
