Rifle, Palisade square off

Post Independent staff report
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
Kristin Anderson Vail Daily

Rifle and Palisade are slated to go at it tonight on the football field. The Bears and Bulldogs will take the field at Mesa State College’s Stocker Stadium at 7 p.m.

Rifle is riding high after defeating Battle Mountain, 47-27, in Edwards last week and playing to within a point of Glenwood Springs, the 3A Western Slope League’s second-place team, the previous week.

A win would give the 3-5 Bears a shot at finishing the season with a .500 record.

Palisade, meanwhile, enters tonight’s game after defeating Glenwood, 19-16, in an overtime thriller at Stubler Memorial Field last Friday.

At 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the 3A WSL, the Bulldogs still have a shot at making the state playoffs. With a bye on the schedule next weekend, tonight is Palisade’s regular season finale.
