Rifle softball rescheduled due to soggy field conditions

The recent spate of rain may be good for lawns. But, it’s not doing any favors for Rifle High’s softball team. Both of the Bears two remaining regular-season league games have been postponed and rescheduled to new dates, and in the case of their rematch with Palisade, has been shifted to the opponent’s home field. The game involving the Bears and Bulldogs is now scheduled to be played at 4 p.m. today at the Kronkright Softball Complex in Grand Junction. If Rifle wins, it sets up a potential tie for the first place and the first round bye at next week’s district tournament in Montrose. But, there are two obstacles in the way for the Bears to accomplish that feat. First, they have to defeat Eagle Valley, in Thursday’s game at Deerfield Park in North Rifle. That game was originally set for Tuesday, then postponed due to a wet field. If the Bears win. Both teams will conclude the season with 7-1 league records. The tie and the pennant, will be broken, according to league rules, by a coin flip.
