Rifle wrestlers advance to state tourney

CRAIG – Anthony Alfini won the regional title and seven other Rifle wrestlers earned a trip to next weekend’s state tournaments with top-four finishes at the Class 4A Western Regional tournament held here Friday and Saturday.

Alfini defeated Moffat County’s Brandon Duarte 4-3 to claim regional honors in the 171-pound class. Cody Ward and Jesse Long advanced to the title match in their respective weight classes, with Long (160 pounds) and Ward (130) both losing decisions.

Three Bear wrestlers captured third-place finishes in Eddie Kreimier (103), Luke Wooten (112) and Nate Worley (189). David Suminski (140) and Casey Dunlap (152) qualified for state with fourth-place showings.
