Rifle’s Cruise second in Steamboat Invitational

One stroke.That’s all that separated Rifle golfer Shawn Cruise and Basalt’s Jim Knous in Wednesday’s Steamboat Invitational at Haymaker Golf Course.Unfortunately for Cruise, Knous carded a 72 for the win and Cruise turned in a 73 to take second. Thirteen teams teed off in the tournament, won by Fruita with a team score of 232. Rifle took eighth at 249, one shot behind Grand Junction. Bears Klayton Costanzo and Eric Copen shot rounds of 85 and 91 respectively.Basalt finished in ninth place at 256, while Roaring Fork came in at 11th with a 280. Max Frank played the lowest round for the Rams, hitting an 86. Micah Evanitz shot a 89 and Daron Parker hit a 105.Up next in the prep golf circuit, Moffat County will host its invitational at Yampa Valley Golf Course in Craig. Glenwood, Rifle, Coal Ridge and Grand Valley are expected to participate.
