Rifle’s Rodebaugh named 4A Player of year

Chad Spangler Post Independent

Alisha Rodebaugh’s magical season in the pitching circle ” and at the plate ” landed her top honors on the All-4A Western Slope League softball team.

The Meeker High School sophomore, who plays softball at Rifle because her school doesn’t have a team, compiled an 11-4 win-loss record, maintained an earned-run average of 0.95 and struck out 100 in 88 2/3 innings in 2008. She also hit .574 with a home run and 31 RBIs.

Those big-time numbers proved eye-opening enough to prompt the 4A WSL coaches to name Rodebaugh the circuit’s player of the year.

Her coach, Cindy Skinner, was named the league’s coach of the year after guiding the Bears to a 16-6 overall record and fourth straight league title.

Bear teammates joining Rodebaugh on the first team were sophomore Makayla Wilkins, senior Kelsey Pyle, senior Tori Fazzi and sophomore Dannon Dueitt.

Rifle honorable mentions went to sophomores Cortney Cordova and Ciara Euler.

The league-champion Bears led all schools with five first-team picks. Delta had three first-teamers, followed by Eagle Valley and Palisade with two and Steamboat Springs with one.
