Rifle’s Rust leaps to 3rd at Tiger Invitational

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Rifle’s track and field team brought home a trio of top-three finishes from Friday and Saturday’s Tiger Invitational.

The Bears’ boys 4×400-meter relay quartet of Ryan Davis, Humberto Guerrero, Tyler Rust and Joe Burgess sped to victory at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction.

Tyler Rust cleared 6 feet, 3 inches to place third in the high jump and Rifle’s 800 sprint medley group of Makayla Wilkins, Kathryn Armstrong, Natalie Whitmore and Holly Keeper nabbed silver.

Rifle will be back at Stocker Stadium next weekend for the Western Slope League championships.

DELTA, Colorado ” Roaring Fork ended its girls tennis season on a positive note, netting a pair of top-four finishes at Thursday and Friday’s Class 4A Region 8 tournament in Delta.

The Rams’ No. 2 doubles pair of Ixchel Munoz and Savanna Phibbs took home the third-place finish, while the No. 1 doubles duo of Maria Flores and Landon Garvik placed fourth.

“We ended up on a wonderful note,” Roaring Fork coach Eileen Waski said.
