Rigsby, Parker lift Grand Valley boys to win
OLATHE — Gunner Rigsby and Sam Parker each finished with a game-high 20 points to pace the Grand Valley High School boys basketball team, which led for the duration of the game on its way to an 81-58 Class 3A Western Slope League victory over the Olathe Pirates on Wednesday night.
Parker and Rigsby each had three 3-pointers. Tanner Magee added 14 points and John Parker chipped in 10 for the Cardinals (10-2 overall, 6-1 3A WSL), who took a 20-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Olathe senior guard Mitch Carlson finished with 15 points to pace the Pirates (0-11, 0-6 league).
Grand Valley will continue league play on Friday when it hosts the Gunnison Cowboys. Olathe will try to rebound on Friday when the Pirates play at Basalt.
GIRLS: OLATHE 51, GRAND VALLEY 29
OLATHE — Grand Valley’s girls basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover on its way to a league loss against seventh-ranked Olathe.
The Pirates (10-11, 6-0 league) jumped to a 17-2 lead after one quarter and were ahead 27-11 by halftime. The Cardinals (7-5, 4-3) lost to Olathe for the second time this season.
The Cardinals host Gunnison at 5:30 p.m. Friday at The Nest.
