Roan Cliff Chaos cross country, hill climb still on

RIFLE, Colorado ” This weekend’s Roan Cliff Chaos cross country and hill climb races are still on despite recent closures by the Bureau of Land Management on one of the two public access routes to the top of the Roan Plateau.

On June 5, the BLM announced the closure of the JQS Road north of Rifle because of multiple debris slides and washouts.

Saturday’s Roan Cliff Chaos cross country won’t be affected at all as accessing the course doesn’t require use of the JQS Road. Sunday’s hill climb competition is still on, but the course may have to be changed as vehicles are no longer allowed to drive to the race’s usual start. Roan Cliff Chaos Director Wayne Edgeton is still figuring out a new route for the hill climb race.

Registration for the annual bike races closed on Wednesday. More information about the races as well as directions to the cross country course can be found at
