Roaring Fork, Basalt fall in first round

COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs Christian isn’t ranked No. 1 for nothing.

The No. 1 seeded Lions raised its undefeated record to 23-0 Friday with a 64-46 first-round win over Basalt (8-15) in the Class 3A boys state basketball playoffs. The loss ended Basalt’s season.

Three Colorado Springs Christian players hit for double figures. The Lions were led by Andrew Hoxie’s 19 points. Tanner Johnson scored 16 and Austin Hoxie added 11.



Colorado Springs Christian took a 28-12 lead by halftime, then secured the win by outscoring the Longhorns 20-13 in the third quarter.

Kyle Kappeli, in his final game in a Basalt High School uniform, scored 16 points. Ryan Thompson finished with 10.

Eaton 59, Roaring Fork 40

KERSEY – The No. 21 seeded Eaton Reds, paced by 27 points from Levi Dyer, upset the No. 12 Rams, 59-40, here Friday night, eliminating Roaring Fork from the Class 3A boys state basketball playoffs.

The 16-8 Reds, who play in the Patriot League, took a seven-point lead in the first quarter when Roaring Fork could only score nine points.

Eaton maintained its lead at halftime, then opened the lead to 14 when the Rams were limited to six points in the third quarter.

Guard Arnold Hernandez scored 14 points in the losing effort. Nic Lough finished with 13.
