Roaring Fork pounds Gunnison

GUNNISON ” The Class 3A state-ranked Roaring Fork boys and girls basketball teams rolled into the Cowboys’ gym Saturday and each came away with large-margin victories.

The unbeaten Ram boys, with their 72-31 win over Gunnison, moved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the 3A Western Slope League.

Roaring Fork completely shut down Gunnison’s offense.

The highest point total the Cowboys had in the game was nine points in the second quarter.

By then, the Rams were already ahead 20-8.

By halftime, Roaring Fork had increased its lead to 40-17. It then posted another 20-point period after intermission.

Dam Markoya netted 21 points. Nic Lough and Aaron Markham hit for 18 and 12 points, respectively.


Five players, led by Whitney Campbell with a game-high 20 points, finished Saturday’s 73-44 in double figures as Roaring Fork raised its record to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the WSL.

Sarah Armstrong added 12 points, Tarn Udall and Mollie Honan had 11 each and Laura Wright had 10 points.

The game was over by halftime.

Roaring Fork took a 46-16 lead to the locker room at intermission, then after being outscored by Gunnison 17-11 in the third quarter, held the Cowboys to 11 points while adding 16 in the game’s final eight minutes.
