Roaring Fork rises in state polls

Roaring Fork left an impression with a lot of people after its commanding 25-7 win over Glenwood Springs Friday night. The performance influenced the voters of both state high school football polls to lift the 1-0 Rams up a spot in this week’s rankings.The current Denver Post/9 News prep poll sees Roaring Fork moving into the No. 4 spot in the Class 2A rankings. Rocky Prep’s voters feel the same way about the Rams, who move the team to the poll’s No. 8 spot.

Roaring Fork hosts Bayfield (0-1) on Friday. Last week, the Wolverines lost the season-opener, 41-24, to Class 3A Eagle Valley.In the 1A ranks, area team Grand Valley dropped to No. 10 in the Denver Post/9 News poll after last week’s 42-14 setback to Class 2A Hotchkiss at home. On Friday, the Cardinals travel to Class 2A Basalt, which fell 14-13 in week one at Meeker.

In other fall sports, Rocky Preps kept Glenwood Springs (6-0) in its No. 8 position in the Class 4A volleyball Top Ten after the Demons went unbeaten to win the annual Demon Invitational.Glenwood is off until Sept. 13, when the Demons play a league match at Rifle (0-1).



Basalt has two top-five ranked squads in different state polls.The Longhorns retained its No. 3 spot among Class 3A girls cross country teams and have slid to No. 4 in the 3A boys soccer state rankings after going 1-1 in last week’s opening round of games.
