Roaring Fork ties for 6th, GS 8th at Cedaredge Invite

CEDAREDGE – Entering the second week of the 2003 season, area prep boys golf teams are beginning to find their collective games.

At Monday’s Bruin Invitational Tournament, Roaring Fork and Glenwood Springs had their best team scores of the young season.

Roaring Fork carded a combined 264, earning a fifth-place tie in the 15-team tournament, held at Deer Creek Village Golf Club. Glenwood finished the 18-hole event with a 268 – their best team score of the year to date for eighth place.

Montrose, sparked by brothers Erik and Chris Lundburg, who finished one-two on the individual leaderboard, won the team title with a 217, 20 strokes ahead of second place Montezuma-Cortez.

Basalt was ninth at 286. Grand Valley finished 14th.

Among Glenwood players, Michael Flohr carded the best round for the Demons. He finished with an 82.

Teammates Matt McAdow, Joey Williams and Jacob Carr concluded the tournament in the 90’s.

The Western Slope boys prep golf tour resumes at 9 a.m. today as area schools Glenwood, Rifle and Grand Valley are scheduled to participate in the Delta Invitational at the Devils’ Thumb Golf Course.

All three prep teams conclude the second week of the 2003 season in Montrose on Thursday.

This year’s Montrose Invitational has extra significance attached to it. In late September, all Class 4A Western Slope teams will return to the Black Canyon Golf Club course for the Western Regional Tournament.
