Roaring Fork Women’s Tri Team puts in strong showing for its 15th year

The 2014 Roaring Fork Women's Triathlon Team celebrates the completion of its 15th year.

Sixty-two women from Silt to Aspen made the trip over the Rockies for Denver’s Tri for the Cure event as part of the Roaring Fork Women’s Triathlon Team’s 15th year.

Coached by Judy Haynes and Nancy Reinisch, the crew has been training since May and made a splash even in a sea of 1,500 participants, with a strong showing across all age groups and matching outfits.

“Another women from Glenwood!,” noted the announcer as one of the last of the pack crossed the finish line. “There’s a million of them. All here in green, all happy and strong to finish.”

Sharma Phillips finished fifth overall and second in her 35-39 age group for the half mile swim, 11.5 mile bike ride and 5K run, with a time of 1:15:07. Stacie LaDuke took third in the 25-29 crowd with 1:17:43, Jaime Fowler was third among the 30-34 age group with 1:22:48, and Carla Westerman took second for the 50-54 age group with 1:26:56. Coach Nancy Reinisch was first among 60-64 age group with 1:26:59, and Cindy Davis was second with 1:37:45. Margo Fishman was third in the 65-69 age group with 1:52:39, and the 70-74 age group Maureen Nuckols took first with 2:13:29 and Karin White was third with 2:24:13.
