Rodeo set for this weekend

The 107th annual Strawberry Days Rodeo returns to the Rodeo Grounds, located next to the Glenwood Springs Airport for two days of competition starting Friday, June 18.Action in the Colorado Pro Rodeo Association sanctioned event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. both evenings.Proceeds from the Rodeo benefits the Garfield County 4-H Horse Judging Team.Competitions include Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, individual and team roping, Bareback riding and Barrel Racing.As part of the event, a mutton busting competition for children, 7 and-under weighing 55 pounds or less will be held.Preliminary rounds are at 4 p.m., Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The top 10 riders advance to the finals at 6 p.m. both nights.The entry fee is $10. The event is limited to 30 competitors per night. All participants must supply their own helmets. Prerace registration forms can be picked up in the lobby of radio station KMTS-FM, located at 3230 S. Glen Ave. during regular business hours.Participants can register at the Rodeo Grounds the night of the event, if slots are available.Daily admission is $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 12.A shuttle, departing from the Sunlight Ski & Bike Shop to the Rodeo Grounds, will leave at 5:30 p.m. both nights, then makes return trips at 8:30 p.m., then at the end of that evenings events.
