Rohrbaugh 3rd after first round at 3A state golf

Tristan Rohrbaugh, a Carbondale resident, shot an even-par 71 on Monday at the Pueblo Country Club, which placed him third after the first round of the Class 3A State Championships.

Rohrbaugh, who plays for Basalt High School, trails Cameron Connor and Cole Folwell of Alexander Dawson High School. The pair finished the first round tied for first place with scores of 2-under 69.

The second round gets under way at 8:30 a.m. today.

Also playing in the 3A State Championships is Tyler Scott of Coal Ridge, who finished the first day in 30th place at 12-over 83. Another Garfield County athlete who plays for Basalt, Glenwood Springs High School student Peter Steckler, is in 36th place with an 85.

In the Class 4A State Championships, Rifle’s Ty Caron shot a first-round 93 and is in a four-way tie for 73rd place at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen on Monday.

Also playing for Rifle is Cody Capwell, who finished with a first-round score of 97. Winning the tournament after the first day was Andrew Rademacher-Howe of Silver Creek, who at 1-under 69 was the only person to have a first-round score under par.

Second-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. today.
