Rohrbaugh at 4-over 74 on first day of U.S. Senior Open

OMAHA, Neb. — Carbondale resident and Ironbridge Golf Club head professional Doug Rohrbaugh finished with a 4-over 74 on Thursday at Omaha Country Club, leaving him seven strokes off the lead at the U.S. Senior Open.

Seven players, including Mark O’Meara, Fred Funk and Kenny Perry, shot a 3-under 67 during Thursday’s first round to pace the field. Second-round play begins at 6 a.m. Mountain time today.

Rohrbaugh was one of 17 players in the tournament who finished at 4-over — a group that included Hale Irwin and Tom Pernice Jr. His only birdie of the day came on the par-4, 320-yard 17th hole, which helped him recover after carding three bogies on his first nine holes. The score has him tied for 80th place in the 155-player field.

Rohrbaugh began his first round playing on the course’s back nine, recording bogies on holes no. 3, 4 and 5 before making par for the next five holes.

Rohrbaugh, 51, came three strokes from making the cut when he played in the U.S. Senior Open in Michigan last year. Earlier this year, he recorded the biggest win of his competitive golf career by winning the Colorado Senior Open in Denver back in May.
