Rugby tripleheader Saturday in Carbondale
Rugby will make a big showing this weekend with a unique tripleheader scheduled for Saturday in Carbondale.
The feature attraction will be a contest between the five-time national champion Gentlemen of Aspen and Philadelphia-Whitmarsh in the USA Rugby Premier League.
The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale.
The Gentlemen of Aspen opened defense of their national Premier League title with a 47-10 win over Life College in Marietta, Ga.
Philadelphia-Whitmarsh also opened Premier League play with a win last weekend – 31-22 over Boston.
The USA Rugby Premier League includes the top rugby club teams in the United States.
The rugby day Saturday will begin at noon when the Gents’ B-side will host the Air Force Academy in Carbondale.
Then at 1:30 p.m., the region’s first high school-age rugby game will be played between the Carbondale area team and Douglas County from the Castle Rock area.
The newly formed high school rugby club will make its debut, immediately prior to the Aspen contest against Philadelphia-Whitmarsh.
The public is invited to the exhibition of rugby Saturday in Carbondale.
