Sailors hold off Devils, face Bears in semis

Steamboat Springs fended off an attempted late-game comeback in Saturday’s Class 3A Quarterfinals, and the Sailors held on for a 14-6 victory over Eagle Valley.

Sophomore running back Jay Hanley rushed for 163 yards and scored what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown with a 8-yard run late in the third quarter.

The Devils tried to come back in the fourth quarter but only managed to score one touchdown and were unable to make the two-point conversion.

Steamboat (9-2) will now travel to Rifle (7-4) in next weekend’s semifinals.
