Send-off for Demons cheer squad

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. The community is invited to attend a good luck send-off for Glenwood Springs High School’s cheerleading squad who will compete at the State Spirit competition Saturday in Denver.The send-off meets at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon just before the Grand Avenue Bridge.Open gym hoops in New CastleNew Castle Recreation will be hosting open gym starting Dec. 2 for basketball players 18 and older every Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Riverside Middle School. Information: 984-3352.2005 Carbondale Men’s Basketball LeagueThe annual men’s Carbondale Basketball League is currently accepting team registration for the upcoming 2007 winter season. The league will begin Jan. 14 and run through March 25, culminating in a single-elimination tournament. The league will be held on Sundays from 4-9 p.m. The cost is $425 per team and rosters can be picked up at the Carbondale Recreation Department or by calling Woodsie at 704-4116. There is a mandatory captains meeting at Town Hall on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 6 p.m. The league is also looking for qualified Referees to be paid $25 per game. The registration deadline is Dec. 20. There is a maximum of 10 teams for the league and there are very few spots remaining, first teams to completely sign-up will be registered for the league. Volleyball tournament hitting Coal RidgeThe Grand Junction Volleyball Club is co-hosting a tournament with the Defiance Volleyball Club (Glenwood Springs) Jan. 13-15 2007 (Martin Luther King Jr. weekend) at Coal Ridge High School. It is presently called the Friendship Tournament and is one part of a six-tournament series. The other five tournaments will be held at Mesa State College in Grand Junction.Information: http://www.gjvbc.org/goldcup_friendship.htm.Holiday Outdoor Club Trip schedule setThe Carbondale Recreation Department will again be conducting a Christmas holiday week full of fun for ages 7 and up. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 15. All transportation is provided to and from Town Hall for the activity, and is included in the cost.Visit to the Clay Center & Glenwood Rec Center from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 20. The cost is $35. Bowling and a movie will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 21 and the cost is $20. Four Mountain Rumble Ski Day will be held on Dec. 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $15 (must be an intermediate skier or above and have own ski pass).On Dec. 27 the CRD will be having its fun at the Aspen Rec Center day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $15. The group will visit the Hot Springs Pool on Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., costing $20.
