GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Emily Worline might be getting used to this running thing.

After all, she’s running the fields behind Glenwood Springs Middle School faster than any of her female classmates.

Worline, a seventh grader at GSMS, won the 600-meter, all-terrain fall All-Star Fenceline run in 2 minutes, 1.6 seconds to claim her second consecutive victory in the race. Her race highlighted a race dominated by seventh graders, as that grade swept the top three spots and was more than 11 seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Her previous winning time, done at the tail end of the school year in the spring, was 2:06.9.

Finishing second was Sarah Helm (2:04.9), with Leigh Ann Johnson (2:07.9) and eighth grader Vanessa Toribio (2:18.7) following.

On the boys side, another seventh grader came through big.

Sebastian Gonzalez won the boys race in 1:51.7. He took the lead for good about halfway through the race when he come down the back incline of the GSMS fields to the right-field fence of the baseball field.

Eighth graders swept the rest of the way. They included second-place finisher Bryan Palacios (1:55.4), austin Hawkins (1:56.1) and Kai Uyehara (1:58.0).

The Fenceline run is entering its 15th year. It serves as the school’s cardiovascular fitness assessment for its physical education department.
