PALISADE – Pat Shepard tallied a pair of first-half goals, and Thais Kulwiec earned his first shutout of the season as Glenwood Springs downed Palisade 4-0 Tuesday afternoonWith the win, the Demons stayed perfect at 3-0 on the season (2-0 Class 4A Western Slope League), while Palisade dropped to 0-2 (0-2).Shepard kicked off the scoring with a breakaway goal, then added a header goal before intermission to give Glenwood a 2-0 advantage at halftime.The Demons took control in the second half, according to assistant coach Dave Shepard.”The first half it was a pretty close game,” he said. “In the second half the Glenwood boys pretty much took control of the game. It didn’t seem like Palisade had the energy to stay in it.”Cory McGrath gave the Demons a 3-0 lead, and Taylor Wilde wrapped up the scoring with a penalty-kick goal. The Demons face defending WSL champion Rifle at Rifle High School at 4 p.m. Thursday.The Glenwood junior varsity squad downed Palisade, 6-1. • Rifle traveled to Class 5A Montrose Tuesday evening.
