Slippery slopes abound at Winter Tri
GLENWOOD SPRINGS – The second annual Glenwood Springs Winter Triathlon is back for another go-round.
The event is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort.
Three different snow-covered courses will be offered for each stage of mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
The mountain bike course is 4 miles, the cross country course and snowshoe courses are approximately 2 miles each. Each phase of the triathlon starts and finishes at the Nordic Center Trailhead.
Last year Basalt’s Kevin Willson took top honors in the field of 22, finishing in just over 54 minutes. He was followed by Glenwood’s Martin Wild and Dennis Webb.
On the women’s side, Helen Webb of Basalt navigated the slippery slopes in about 1:15.
Registration begins at noon on race day and early arrival is suggested. Preregistration is $15 and race-day registration is $20. Athletes can preregister by calling 945-8697 or 888-907-9663.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Friends of the Community Center to help raise funds for a swimming pool.
