Sopris swimmers improve times at Eagle meet

Competing in the Mountain Town Summer League Championships at the Eagle Pool against eight other teams, the Team Sopris Barracudas improved times and scored top-eight finishes in multiple events.

The Team Sopris Swimmer of the Meet was eight-year old Luca Shafer, who was competing in his first meet; Shafer won the 25 breast in 25 seconds and 69 one hundredths of a second, while also placing third in the 25 back (26.84).

Also winning events for Sopris were Thane Newton, boys 11-12 50 free (30.47); and Addy Newton, girls 9-10 50 free (33.65) and 25 back (19.93).

Hank Cerrone placed third in the boys 8-and-under 25 free (19.62) and fourth in the 25 fly (28.09), while Alexander Conder dropped a second to place second in the boys 8-and-under 25 back (22.41) and dropped another second to take third in the 25 fly.

Cecilia Garcia placed fourth in the girls 13-and-over 50 back (44.03), dropping a second, and sixth in the 50 fly (44.82), her first time completing that event. Leah Shafer notched a pair of thirds in the girls 11-12 50 fly (41.56) and 50 breast (47.00).
