Speakman leads Grand Valley to 5-1 victory over Moffat County

PARACHUTE — Grand Valley High School’s girls soccer team rallied from an early one-goal deficit with five unanswered goals to claim a 5-1 Class 3A Western Slope League victory over Moffat County on Friday afternoon.

Ashlynn Speakman finished with three goals, scoring them in the 15th, 17th and 45th minutes to give Grand Valley the lead for good. Kyra Chanoweth added a goal in the 73d minute, and Hannah Cornelius capped the scoring the a goal off a corner kick from Chenoweth in the 78th minute.

Lauren Paskett played in goal for Grand Valley in place of regular starter Erin Schuckers, who was gone on vacation. Paskett finished with 11 saves — giving up a lone goal in the eighth minute of the game — and the Cardinals took 11 shots on goal.



Grand Valley (6-2-0, 4-1-0 league) continues league play at home Tuesday against Rifle.
