The Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association (GSYHA) has opened registration for the upcoming season. Visit http://www.GrizzlyHockey.com for more information.
This Saturday, GSYHA will be holding a “Try Hockey for Free” event at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. The action begins at 3 p.m. Also that day, GSYHA is holding an “Ice Breaker” event from 4-8 p.m. Visit the website for more information.
Turkey Trot 5K sign-ups now being taken
Runners, joggers, walkers and non-runners are invited to sign up for the Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run.
This Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) will begin at the Glenwood Springs Community Center at 10 a.m. Test your running abilities on a fresh new course.
Pre-race registration is under way at Independence Run and Hike in Carbondale. The Glenwood Springs High School boys and girls swim teams, along with the Sopris Barracudas, will be pre-selling race entries as well starting Nov. 7. Pre-race registration will be $7.
Race-day registration will be $10 and begin at 9 a.m. inside the community center.
Sunlight Winter Sports Club
Buddy Werner sign-ups
Registration for the upcoming 2012-2013 winter season is now open.
The Buddy Werner program is designed for skiers aged 6 to 12 years who want to develop ski skills in a fun, kid-oriented program designed to give children an exposure to alpine ski racing.
Participants meet in small groups with volunteer adult coaches on eight Saturdays (January through March). Skiers are instructed in the basics of ski racing and team participation, with an emphasis on learning slalom and giant slalom racing under close supervision by experienced coaches and parents who are accomplished skiers.
Registration is now open and available on the Sunlight Winter Sports Club website at http://www.sunlightwintersportsclub.com. The cost of this year’s program is $350.

Burning Mountain Bowl
men’s league starting in January
Burning Mountain Bowl will be starting a men’s league in New Castle.
The league will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and will run every Wednesday for 16 weeks. The league will consist of four-man teams.
There will be an organizational meeting on Jan. 2, 2013, at 7 p.m.
