Sports briefs: Lots of running races coming up
Glenwood Springs FireKracker 4K run
The Glenwood Springs Lions Club presents the eighth FireKracker 4K and quarter-mile fun run for kids on July 4 at Two Rivers Park.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 8:30 a.m., following an out-and-back course on the Glenwood Springs River Trail.

Maggie’s Mountain Run 5K and 10K
The first Maggie’s Mountain Run 10K, 5K and 1 mile run/hike is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, on the privately owned Argonaut Farm Ranch, 7437 County Road 117 (up 4 Mile Road toward Sunlight Mountain).
The race begins at Argonaut Farm Ranch as follows: 10K, 7:30 a.m.; 5K, 8:30 a.m.; and Maggie Mile Run/Hike, 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the event are to go to the fight against childhood cancer, including a local family currently battling pediatric leukemia. “Manuela Perez, 7, has just begun her fight and your entry fee will help cover travel cost, equipment and treatments,” a news release states.
Sunlight Showdown Half coming July 16-17
Sunlight Mountain Resort outside Glenwood Springs hosts the Sunlight Showdown 13-mile mountain bike race on July 16 and trail half marathon running race on July 17.
The course follows the Babbish Gulch backcountry trails system and climbs to the top of 9,895-foot Compass Peak, winding through open meadows, pine and aspen forest and across streams.
