Age: 21Lives in: El Jebel. From: Denver – just moved to the Roaring Fork Valley a month and a half ago.Occupation: Electrician.Finished: 34th overall in the first running race of his life – the Hogback Hustle 5K Saturday in New Castle.Fashion icon because: Wore a white cowboy hat and Super man T-shirt to compete in the race. What was it like running with the cowboy hat while you ran the Hogback Hustle 5K?I was a little bit worried that the sweat from my head would make it slip off, but it didn’t at all. It never fell off.
Are you the kind of guy who wears the hat all the time? No. I bought it when I was at Country Jam (A concert in Grand Junction June 21-24). I wear it if I go to the lake, or if I just feel like it. It’s a nice hat, it feels good. It keeps my head shaded. Why did you move to the Valley?New job and a change of scenery. I got tired of the city. I was like “the city sucks.” Here I just feel so vibrant. I am always doing stuff. It is much nicer. Are you a big runner? No, not at all. The last month, just because I decided I am horribly, horribly out of shape, I have been running a mile or two a few times a week. This is the longest I have ever run.Would you do another race?Oh yeah. That was so fun.
Are you a big country music fan?Yes.Who are your favorites?I would put Kenny Chesney as my No. 1. And then there is George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, I love Sara Evans. I don’t care how poppy she sounds, I love Shania Twain. You can’t go wrong with Shania Twain. Trace Adkins, Brooks and Dunn, Willie Nelson.Who was the best at Country Jam?I only went Friday night, but Brad Paisley put on a pretty rocking show, but it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.What is your favorite movie you have seen lately?”Live Free of Die Hard” because I have been saying it for years – they need to bring back the action flick that is just non-stop action and as little plot as possible. And that’s pretty much what it was. The one-liners got dropped and everything. I was so proud. Transformers was good too, I don’t care what anyone says.
Are you a hiker?I love hiking. I love Hanging Lake. It is my favorite hike up here. It is such an awesome hike and it’s not really that tough and once you get to the top it is just absolutely gorgeous. Are you a big Superman fan?Yeah, I probably read too many comics for my age.Is he your favorite super hero? No, Spiderman for sure. Superman is awesome and hard core. No one can touch the man. But Spiderman has got so much more of a human element, everybody can relate to Spiderman.Sports Spotlight is a feature that runs every other Wednesday in the Post Independent.
