Springers post good times in Boulder

The Glenwood Springers track club concluded the indoor season with some high marks at the two-day Colorado Indoor championship meet, held at the University of Colorado’s Balch Fieldhouse this weekend.At the end of the meet, the Springers five-athlete contingent recorded five top-four times.Blake Risner, the Springers’ head coach, earned first place in the Masters division of the high jump with an event-best mark of 5 feet, 10 inches.Melissa Buchanan, competing in the Intermediate (15- and 16-year-old) girls meet, took second place in the 1,600-meter run. Buchanan’s finishing time of 6 minutes, 1.34 seconds, was a 27-second improvement over her previous best in the event.Earlier, she finished eighth in the 800 at 2:38.10.Ryan Buchanan, Melissa’s younger brother, scooted to a 5:35.54 third-place time in the youth boys (ages 13-14) 1600 meters and took fourth in the 800 by timing in at 2:30.45.Angela Shepard, an eighth-grader at Glenwood Springs Middle School, finished third in the division’s 3,200 meters Saturday with a time of 14:29.96. The day before Shepard ran a seasonal best 6:14.92 to earn fifth place in the 1600. Seventh-grader Meg Waibel sprinted to seventh place in the Intermediate girls 400 meter dash, recording a 1:06.44 mark, and placed ninth in the 800.The Springers end the Winter season on Saturday, Feb. 18, by participating in an outdoor 5K race in Fruita.Interested runners can obtain more information on the Internet by going to http://www.mmstriders.com.
