State soccer tourney starts this week

Colorado High School Activities Association released the 2005 Boys Soccer State Championship bracket on Sunday, listing Glenwood Springs and Rifle in the first round of Class 4A and Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Class 3A.The Demons drew a No. 13 ranking in a field of 32 teams, pairing them against Denver’s D’Evelyn High School. The Demons (10-2-0 Western Slope League, 12-2-0 overall) will host the No. 20 Jaguars (5-2-1 Jefferson County League, 10-4-1 overall) on or before Wednesday. Rifle received a No. 22 ranking and will travel to Niwot to face the No. 11 Cougars of Niwot High School. The Bears have a 5-7-0 WSL record, going 8-7-0 overall this season, while Niwot is 5-1-1 in the Northern League and 11-3-1 overall. This game will also have to be played on or before Wednesday.There are five rounds in the state tournament, with the championship game taking place on Nov. 8 in Arvada.In the Class 3A bracket, CRMS drew a last-place ranking of 16, matching them against No. 1 Kent Denver. The Oysters (5-5-0 WSL, 6-5-0 overall) will travel to the Sun Devils’ home field in Englewood and will play on or before Saturday. Kent Denver had posted a 9-0-1 record in the Metropolitan League and had gone 13-1-1 overall.The Class 3A state playoffs will have four rounds and the championship will also be played in Arvada on Nov. 8.
