Summer track registration today

Registration for the Glenwood Springers Track Club, a summer youth track, will be held at 7 p.m. today at Glenwood Springs Middle School in West Glenwood.

The summer track and field club is open to girls and boys ages 8-18.

Parents need to be on hand to register their youngsters.

The Springers will be coached this summer by local track standouts Chas Salmen and Gus Lundin.

Salmen just finished his high school career at Glenwood Springs High School. He raced in his final prep state meet on Saturday at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. Salmen will attend Duke University next fall where he will run cross country and track.

He will be joined by former GSHS teammate Lundin. The two teamed to win a state championship in the 4×800 relay two years ago.

Lundin has gone on to the University of Colorado, where he is a member of the Buffs’ NCAA Division I track team.

The two coaches will work with the youth tracksters as they compete in a summer schedule of area and regional meets, including qualifying meets for the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics and National Championships.
