Sun sets on Glenwood Ladies Golf Club season

The Glenwood Springs Ladies Golf Club closed out its season last week with five contests including a scramble, a chipping contest, a par-three round, a speed golf session and longest putt challenge, all taking place at Glenwood Springs Golf Club.

Two teams tied with a score of 39 in the three-person scramble with Theresa Zelenka, Jackie Dority and Leslie Jochum tying the threesome of Jennifer Gallegos, Chris Lynch and Phyllis Viehe.

The chipping contest from the Hole No. 2 drop zone to the green ended with Victoria Sullivan and Nellie Yeakle jointly deciding to split the honor as well as cash prize.

Gail Petry took top honors in the 9-hole, par-three round with a net score of 24, followed by Dority and Lynch each with a score of 26.

The ladies were not done yet.

The remaining field of 18 ladies were divided in half and turned loose to play holes No. 1 and No. 2 in a round of speed golf. The team of Gallegos, Petry, Nancy Peterson, Erin Winick, Ginger Franke, Zelenka and Sullivan finished the two holes in 3 minutes and 42 seconds.

The day’s event ended, in the dark, when Sullivan sunk the putt to win the longest putt contest.

The GSLGC is inviting all its members to attend the complimentary end-of-the-season dinner this Thursday. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilltop Cafe.
