Sunlight Resort primed for summer activities
Mountain bikers looking for a new place to ride without the tiresome trek to the bike trails have no further to travel than to Sunlight Mountain Resort to get the best of both worlds.
For four weekends beginning on June 23, Sunlight will offer chairlift rides for riders and their bikes to the Segundo lift from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
After reaching the top of the lift, riders can select from beginner to intermediate runs through Babbish Gulch or Ute Road down to the bottom of mountain.
An individual ride costs $5. Riders can also purchase an all-day ticket for $22.
Mountain bikes can be rented at the mountain rental shop, across from the ticket booth, for $8 per hour, $18 for a half-day and $22 for a full day. Helmets are required.
Operators will be on-hand to place the bikes into the refitted chairlifts, that feature special attachments which act like car racks that reduce the risk of damage to riders’ bicycles.
Other summer activities at Sunlight include the popular guided horseback tours along Sunlight Mountain. Tours are available Wednesdays through Sundays till June 30 and daily beginning July 1 to September 2. The 1 1/2 hour tours cost $28 per-person. Tour times are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Children must be 7 years or older to ride. Reservations are required.
Call 945-7491 for info on the chairlift rides and reservations on horseback riding.
In addition, the Sunlight Mountain Ski and Bike shop, located in downtown Glenwood Springs, also features a shuttle service for bikers to the Bair Ranch and Hanging Lake rest areas.
Further information on the shuttle service can be obtained by calling the Bike shop at 945-9425.
