The Eagle Valley high school boys golf team won the Coal Ridge Invitational with a combined team score of 266. They were followed by Coal Ridge with a team score of 282, and Glenwood Springs shot a 298, good for third place. The top five individual scores were Eagle Valleys Brian Matthews with a 82, Grand Valleys Kaleb Bell (86), Glenwood Springs Jesse Pine (87), Eagle Valleys Kyle Simonson (88) and Glenwood Springs D.J. Pellamo (90).

The 2005 Denver Broncos NFL/Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Carbondale on the Carbondale Middle School athletic field.The free event is open to boys and girls, ages 8-15. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. the day of the event.Information: 704-4115.

The 2005 Lakota golf course, 36-hole, mens club championship tournament will be Oct. 1-2. The tournament includes club members from both the mens Wednesday and Thursday night mens leagues.Tee time is 2 p.m. both days.Club members can register by calling the Pro Shop at 984-9700.

Applications for the Basalt soccer clubs U12 and U14 girls developmental teams are still being accepted for the 2005 season. Applications can be picked up at Basalt Town Hall or by calling 927-0523, ext. 507.Information: 948-9314.

Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the annual Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy Saturday, Oct. 8. The race benefits Literacy Outreach, a nonprofit organization that teaches literacy skills to adults.Events include a 13.1-mile half-marathon run and relay race and a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run/walk. Both will take place on the bike path in Glenwood Canyon.The race is the final event in the Glenwood Charity Race Series.The half-marathon begins at 9 a.m. The 5K starts at 10. Buses will take participants from the finish line at the No Name exit of Glenwood Canyon to the races starting points.The entry fee is $20 per person in the half-marathon, and $50 per team, and the 5K cost is $15 per person. A late fee of $5 per person and $25 per team applies to entries received after Oct. 4. The entry fee includes a long-sleeved T-shirt and, for the first 100 entrants, a pair of Thorlo socks.Online registration is available at Tom Lacy, 618-2478; Citizens Race canceledThe Rifle Citizens Race, scheduled for Thursday, has been canceled due to lack of competing teams for that days scheduled high school meet.
