Three Rivers All-Stars win two in tourney play

PALISADE ” The Three Rivers All-Stars continued their winning ways in the District 1 Junior Boys tournament on Sunday with a convincing 28-0 shutout victory over Fruita-Redlands.

The win vaults Three Rivers to today’s 5:30 p.m. winners bracket game with either Cortez or Grand Mesa of Grand Junction.

Three Rivers opponent was not available at press time.



On Sunday, Three Rivers jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. They boosted the advantage to a 16-0 budge after scoring nine runs in the second inning, then scored seven times in the third and solo tallies over the next two frames for the final score.

Jake Kinney hit a pair of triple’s and had five RBI’s.



Barrett Jensen had an RBI-triple. Alan Prater contirbuted with an extra-base hit.

In Grand Junction, Three Rivers’ 9-10 year-old All-Star team evened its record to 1-1 in pool play of the District 1 tournament with a 10-0 win over the No. 2 team from Monument Sunday.

Three Rivers continues pool play action with a 6 p.m. game tonight against Monument No. 1 at the Grand Mesa Little League complex.

A third Three Rivers All-Star team, consisting of 11- and 12-year-old players begin the opening round of the nine-team, double-elimination Major Boys tournament at the Monument Little League complex in West Grand Junction.

Three Rivers plays Orchard Mesa at 8 p.m. this evening. The winner from that game advances to a winners’ bracket contest on Tuesday against
