Titans fall in home finale
PEACH VALLEY — Coal Ridge High School’s volleyball team lost its final home match of the regular season, falling in three sets to Class 5A Grand Junction Central, 25-11, 25-23, 27-25 on Tuesday night in nonleague play.
The Class 3A Titans (16-3 overall), the 10th-ranked team in their classification, were unable to recover from a slow start against the Warriors (8-12 overall).
“Central played well,” Coal Ridge coach Scott Black said. “We just weren’t able to match the way they played.”
Junior Katelynn Senor finished with a team-high seven kills, senior middle hitter Paige Ryan had five kills and three blocks and senior outside hitter Alicia Hampton chipped in five kills for Coal Ridge.
Also contributing was senior outside hitter Jacklyn Collins, who had six kills and a pair of blocks, and junior middle hitter Britini Allen, who added five blocks and four kills.
Coal Ridge will play again on Friday and Saturday when the Titans are the No. 2 seed in the 3A Western Slope League tournament. The tournament will be played at Grand Junction Central High School.
