Titans fall to Sun Devils

Taking on the Kent Denver Sun Devils Saturday afternoon in the final of the Kent Denver Sun Devil Soccer Tournament, the Coal Ridge Titans’ girls soccer team came up short in a 2-1 loss.

Kent Denver would score two early goals on defensive miscues by the Titans, but the Coal Ridge defense would tighten up the rest of the game, allowing the Titans to try and battle back.

Coming out of the half trailing 2-0, Coal Ridge would strike quickly as junior midfielder Jenny Pena found the back of the net off of an assist from senior forward Kaitlyn Harlow to make it a 2-1 game. Unfortunately for the Titans though, they wouldn’t be able to find the back of the net again in the loss.

“It was a physical game,” Coal Ridge Head Coach Damon Martinez said. “It was also a good game for us to measure ourselves against one of the state’s best 3A teams. We learned a lot and it will hopefully help us work to play at a higher level as the season goes on.”

With the loss, Coal Ridge sits at 2-1 on the season.

The Titans will be off until March 28 when they travel to Carbondale to take on the Roaring Fork Rams at 4 p.m.
