Top 14 prep golfers score under 80 at Grand Junction tourney

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Local golfers raided Grand Junction’s Bookcliff Country Club for Monday’s 20-team, Grand Junction High School-hosted Tiger Invitational.

And it was a heavily contested tourney, with the top 10 all bringing in scorecards under 80.

Fronting the pack was Battle Mountain’s Cameron Brown, whose 1-under-par 70 placed him a stroke ahead of Montrose’s Brandon Walters (71).



Montrose easily won the team-score battle with a 223, nine strokes ahead of second-place Montezuma-Cortez and 12 in front of third-place Battle Mountain.

Taking top honors among Garfield County squads was Rifle’s Clayton Kostanzo, whose 77 landed him in a tie for seventh place. Also shooting well from local teams was Glenwood Springs’ Michael Braklow (84), Roaring Fork’s Micah Evonitz (85), Rifle’s Alex Haynes (86), Coal Ridge’s Casey Lawrence (93) Roaring Fork’s Arick Zeigel (94), Glenwood’s Taylor Mays (95), Rifle’s Chris Kuester (99) and Coal Ridge’s Craig Spaulding (99).
